What is a BDR Anyways?

The term "BDR" is an industry acronym for "(B)ackup and (D)isaster (R)ecovery appliance." eFolder's BDR is a hardware appliance that is purchased and installed at the customer's site. The purpose of the BDR is to not only backup and protect every single bit of your customer's data, but also to ensure business continuity in the event of a server or even site-wide disaster.

The BDR works as follows:

• Bare-metal backups of the customer's computers are streamed to the BDR appliance as often as every 15 minutes.
• If a customer has a server crash or equipment failure, the server can be instantly virtualized and run on top of the BDR appliance, restoring service within seconds, not minutes or hours!
• Once the failed server has been virtualized on the BDR, users are unaware of the original server failure.
• Data on the BDR can be efficiently and securely replicated across a VPN or the public Internet to another BDR appliance. This BDR appliance acts as a geographically diverse hot standby. If the customer has a major site-wide disaster that affects both the customer's server(s) and their associated BDRs, the customer's servers can be virtualized on the standby
• Data on the BDR can be backed up to eFolder's storage cloud, where it is protected by eFolder's unique silent data corruption protection technology and unparalleled level of data redundancy.
• The BDR also acts as a high-powered NAS device, for storing file-based customer data, which can be replicated and/or backed up to eFolder's storage cloud.
